Essential oils are the pure essence of flowers and herbs. Extracted from the roots, shrubs, flowers, leaves, stems, or bark of a plant through distillation, these essential oils are highly concentrated and fragrant.
The essential oil extracted from a plant is 100 times more concentrated than the scent of the fresh plant itself. Because these essential oils contain the distinctive scent and essence of each plant or flower they were extracted from, they are commonly used in medicines, perfumes, soaps and flavorings. In the process of candle or soap making, using essential oils is the only way you can scent a candle naturally.
Essential Oils vs Fragrance Oils
Fragrance oils were taken into consideration for their stronger and longer lasting scent. It was also cost effective and there was larger number of oils to choose from. Ultimately it was the therapeutic benefits that you receive from essential oils and the fact essential oils are more of an eco-friendly choice. That is why we went with essential oils over fragrance oils but both are excellent in their own ways, it comes down to preference.
So when naming our scents we decided to use a name used in aromatherapy terminology over names of a certain scent or a combination of scents. For example: Citrus Lavender is a name of a combination of scents and Relax is used in aromatherapy terminology.
After many hours of experimenting with different essential oil blends to see which oils work best together and even more hours burn testing the candles to test the potency of the scent. We have created another 5 new aromatherapy scents that we are excited to add to our candles.
